JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan made two suggestions in an international forum attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations (PBB). The proposal is related to reducing carbon emissions and controlling climate change.

This was then criticized by a member of the DPRD from the PDIP faction, Gilbert Simanjuntak. Gilbert said that Anies's suggestion should also be applied in Jakarta. However, Anies did not appear to have carried out his own proposal.

"The advice given by Bung Anies should be implemented in Jakarta but in reality it was not carried out. If it is only a narrative without action, then it is like an empty barrel," Gilbert told reporters, Monday, April 19.

Gilbert acknowledged that carbon emissions have indeed begun to decrease, but this has been helped by pandemic conditions that require restrictions on population mobility.

According to him, integrated transportation is still far from the target. Traffic jams are still everywhere. In fact, Anies's tenure is only around one and a half years until October 2022.

"During his tenure, Anies prioritized bicycles that could not possibly solve congestion as a source of carbon emissions, but public transportation should be the answer for that," said Gilbert.

While controlling climate change, Gilbert touched on the problem of flooding. Also, sea eruptions are caused by groundwater that continues to be sucked up due to mass use.

"In connection with the Governor's proposal to overcome the climate, in the draft RPJMD there is not even an effort to deal with this clean water. What is, the normalization (work) is left to the center. The impression that arises from Bung Anies' proposal is just wording without real evidence," he said.

The two proposals made by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan were greeted by the interruption of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) António Gutteres, who agreed and would follow up on the proposal.

This proposal was conveyed by Anies in a virtual forum entitled Dialogue Between C40 Mayors and UN Secretary General-Advancing Carbon Neutrality and Resilent Recovery for Cities and Nations, which was held on Friday night, April 16. In this event, he gets two minutes of talk time.
