ProBOLINGGO - Probolinggo Police, East Java, arrested two suspected perpetrators of extortion against the village head of Kropak in the local district.

"The two perpetrators who were arrested were ZA (47) and HA (40), both residents of Tongas District, Probolinggo Regency," said Probolinggo Police Chief AKBPWisnu Wardana as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 22.

From the hands of the alleged perpetrators, the police also secured evidence of Rp5 million in cash which was allegedly the result of extorting the village head of Kropak with the initials SE (47).

According to the Police Chief, the extortion case began when the victim SE received a letter from a neighbor containing clarifications on alleged corruption in a project in Kropak Village, Bantaran District, Probolinggo Regency.

"Then the victim contacted HA to solve the reported problem and at that time the suspect HA immediately asked for Rp7 million so that the case was not reported," he said.

The village head of Kropak did not immediately give money, then the perpetrator of the HA extortion returned to contact the victim to provide money the next day because ZA had asked him.

"HA sent a voice message to the victim containing that the money issue was resolved that day. After obtaining a loan of Rp. 5 million, the victim asked HA to come to the Kropak Village Office with ZA," he said.

After the two perpetrators arrived, the Head of the SE Village handed the money over to both of them. However, when he left the Kropak Village Office, two extortionists were arrested by the police with evidence of Rp. 5 million.

"When the police conducted a search, an online media identity card and a non-governmental organization (NGO) were found belonging to the two suspected perpetrators. Now the two perpetrators have been detained by the Probolinggo Police Satreskrim for further investigation," he said.
