President Prabowo Subianto targets the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) to become the capital city of Indonesian politics in the second phase of development which is planned to be completed in 2028.

This was conveyed by the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo and a number of ministers at the Presidential Palace, Tuesday, January 21.

"He targets IKN in 2028 to become the capital of politics. We are tasked with completing projects for legislative, judicial, and other supporting facilities," said Basuki.

The design of the construction of the legislative and judicial complex, previously designed by the Ministry of PUPR, will be reviewed according to President Prabowo's direction.

"We together with the Ministry of PUPR and OIKN will form a design team to adjust the direction of development in the future," he added.

In the second phase of development (2025-2029), a budget of IDR 48.8 trillion from the APBN has been prepared to complete core infrastructure, such as the legislative and judicial complexes, supporting ecosystems, as well as access to the second planning area (WP2).

In addition, government cooperation programs and business entities (KPBU) worth IDR 60.93 trillion will be used to build apartments, landed houses, roads, and other utility infrastructure in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP).

OIKN also reported plans for the construction of a 50 MW solar power plant and a project worth IDR 6.49 trillion for hotels, residential, retail, and offices.

The initial stage of IKN development (2022-2024) has absorbed the APBN of IDR 89 trillion for the construction of toll roads, housing, drinking water systems, sanitation, and public facilities, including mosques, basilica, and churches. As of September 2024, private investments that have been grounded have reached IDR 58.41 trillion.

"The current progress is complete, some are ongoing, and some are in design preparation. We are optimistic that the development target can be achieved," said Basuki.

The government hopes that with the completion of the second phase of development, IKN will fully function as Indonesia's political center in 2028.
