Twenty plots on the banks of Jalan Mangga Besar XIII, RT 06/04, Mangga Dua Selatan Village, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, were hit by a fire on Tuesday, January 21.

"The fire is thought to have originated from a splash of a gas stove. As a result, 20 rented houses that were densely occupied were burned down," said Head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept., Asril Rizal when confirmed, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The operation to extinguish the fire has been going on since 16.00 WIB. The fire engulfed residential areas on the banks of the river. A number of residents tried to extinguish the fire with makeshift tools.

A total of 19 fire engines were dispatched to the location. 76 officers are also still struggling to extinguish the fire.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire extinguishing process was still ongoing at the location of the fire. It is not yet known whether there were casualties or injuries from the fire.

Asril added that his party received a fire report at 15.20 WIB with the object on fire being a densely populated house.

Receiving the report, officers were immediately dispatched to extinguish the blaze.

Asril said, there were 22 heads of families (KK) with 88 people having to lose their homes.

"We had difficulty extinguishing the fire because the road access was narrow and the residents were not conducive," he said.
