YOGYAKARTA - The government has agreed on the discourse of school holidays during the 1446 H fasting month. This was revealed by the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, after the Tanwir 1 Aisyiyah event in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/1). There are three school holidays during Ramadan 2025.

Mendikdasmen Abdul Mu'ti mengatakan bahwa wacana libur sekolah tersebut sudah dibahas bersama tiga kementerian, yaitu Kementerian Pendidikan Basar dan Menengah, Kementerian Dalam Negeri (Kemendagri), Kementerian Agama (Kemenag).

Previously, there was a discourse on a full one-month school holiday during this year's Ramadan. This was first conveyed by the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar at the end of December 2024.

According to the Minister of Religion, with a full month's holiday, students can focus more on worship activities and strengthen relationships with their families. The policy was applied during the reign of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur.

However, the discourse is still being considered because it has an influence on the economic, social, and so on fields. So what is the school holiday scheme like during Ramadan 2025 and its implementation?

Until now, the government is working on three schemes for school holidays during Ramadan in 2025. The scheme is as follows:

Regarding the first scheme, there are many pros and cons from various parties. Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar said that the school holiday system during Ramadan had actually been implemented in Islamic boarding schools.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education and Culture, Abdul Mu'ti, said that the decision to cancel schools during the month of Ramadan would be harmonized between public schools and madrasas. This step was taken so that there would be no confusion due to differences in decisions. He also added that the announcement related to this was still waiting for the Minister of Religion.

Responding to the discourse of school holidays during Ramadan, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Ahmad Suaedy stated that his party had not been able to provide a response regarding the policy.

Ahmad Suaedy explained that the topic of school holidays during Ramadan will be discussed at the Alim Ulama National Conference and the Grand Conference which is scheduled for February 5-7, 2025. The results of this Konbes will later become a reference for PBNU in conveying views related to various actual issues.

In a separate statement, the General Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive (PP), Haedar Nashir suggested that the Ramadan holiday period be used to foster the character of the community.

"Generations are currently born from the Android system, children have become excited from religion," said Haedar Nashir as quoted by Antara, Wednesday (15/1).

"For this reason, character properties are important, no matter how many holidays should be used to foster character," said Haedar Nashir.
