JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has examined former Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman today, Wednesday, January 15. He was questioned regarding the interim replacement bribery (PAW) case of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation that ensnared PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

This case is the development of PAW bribery which began with a hand arrest operation (OTT) in 2020. From this activity, Harun Masiku, who is a former PDIP candidate, became a suspect and was later fugitive for bribing former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.

"Just like five years ago, there was exactly nothing new," Arief told reporters at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, January 15.

Even so, Arief said that his examination was intended to complete Hasto's case file. "Judulnua is different, if in the past for who the suspect was, this time for who the suspect was," he said.

Similarly, former KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting, who was also examined, admitted that he did not provide a different statement from before. "There is nothing the same as in 2021. Nothing is added. It's the same," he said.

Previously reported, the KPK developed a case of alleged bribery related to the management of PAW members of the DPR. This case involved former KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and fugitive suspect Harun Masiku. In its development, the KPK named Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah who are PDIP cadres as well as lawyers as suspects.

In addition to the bribery case, Hasto was also charged with alleged obstruction to the investigation. He allegedly asked Harun Masiku to damage his cellphone and run away after the arrest operation (OTT) carried out by the KPK in 2020.

Meanwhile, Harun Masiku has not yet been caught. However, the anti-corruption commission has updated the wanted list (DPO) last December.
