KPAI Highlights Couple Cases As Suspects For Alleged Abandonment Of Babies At West Jakarta Hospital

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) highlighted the case of a married couple (couple) with the initials H and BU who abandoned their baby boy at a hospital in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta.

According to KPAI, in this phenomenon, the state has a scheme to help those who are struggling with costs. But still by prioritizing shared obligations.

"I think this event is important, there is education from all of us in the context of implementing welfare and health. Especially for poor families, displaced people, blind people," said Deputy Chairperson of KPAI, Jasra Putra to VOI, Wednesday, January 14.

Jasra said the hospital had procedures when the patient entered the Emergency Installation (IGD). All actions have responsibilities between the hospital and the patient.

"The patient should not have left. Usually when the agreement signed by the patient cannot be carried out, the hospital has a scheme and solution, but can discuss with the hospital management," he said.

KPAI assessed that the social phenomenon of parents being imprisoned for neglecting babies in hospitals was nothing new.

"We urge patients not to make attempts to escape from the hospital. Because in hospitals there are still educational mechanisms, cost relief, social services programs," he said.

Previously, the poor baby was initially taken to the hospital by his parents on December 28, 2024, at 02.45 WIB, until then the baby died at 04.00 WIB after receiving treatment.

Due to difficulties in paying hospital bills, the two baby's parents disappeared in the morning.

Furthermore, the police managed to arrest a husband and wife (couple) with the initials H and BU who abandoned their baby boy at a hospital in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta. The arrests were made on Sunday, January 12, at a boarding house in the Jelambar area, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta.

For his actions, the couple was charged with Article 77 Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection with a penalty of five years in prison.
