JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) Vice Admiral TNI Irvansyah said his party had prepared a draft Law (RUU) on Maritime Security, and would hand it over to the DPR RI.
Irvansyah explained that the Sea Security Bill is currently needed because it will specifically regulate Bakamla RI.
"This Bakamla Law is still attached to Law Number 32 of 2014 concerning Maritime Affairs, and Law Number 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping which has now been revised to Law Number 66 of 2024," said Irvansyah explaining, when giving a press statement after attending the commemoration of the 19th Anniversary of Bakamla RI at the Proclamation Park, Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, January 14.
In addition, he explained, the bill needs to be in line with the importance of the existence of a coast guard or marine and coast guard in Indonesia.
"What's the cost guard for? Many countries have coast guards, almost all countries have coast guards, at least have bodies that carry out the cost guard function universally," he said.
Previously, Irvansyah in a hearing with Commission I of the DPR RI at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (11/11), said that the draft Sea Security Bill was one of the programs that the agency would run during the first 100 days of the Red and White Cabinet.
