2,300 Cows In Central Java Affected By Mouth-and-mouth Disease, 50 Dead

SEMARANG - Around 2,300 cows in Central Java have mouth and nail disease (PMK).

"Until now, the number of cattle infected with the PMK virus has reached 2,300 and as many as 50 other cows have been reported dead," said Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 9.

To prevent the outbreak, he said, the Central Java Provincial Government has taken a number of steps such as routinely vaccinating and tightening supervision of livestock traffic entering all animal markets in Central Java.

Nana said the number of livestock, especially cows in Central Java infected with PMK, had increased significantly.

"Indeed, regarding the PMK problem for animals, especially cows, there is indeed an increase that can be said to be significant. In this case, provinces and also from regencies and cities, we have made a circular letter on how we cope with and anticipate and also handle this PMK case," he said.

Regarding the increase in the number of livestock affected by PMK, the provincial government has also made various prevention efforts such as coordinating with other provinces to first check the animals before being taken out of the area.

In addition, so that infected livestock are immediately handled, his party has also ordered every regent and mayor to immediately vaccinate and other preventive efforts.

"We immediately separated the sick and healthy animals. We also tightened the animal markets. Then another effort is for sick animals. We have carried out treatments such as vaccinating what we continue to do, both from provinces, districts and these activities are carried out almost every day by the livestock service and volunteers. which we have prepared to continue to vaccinate sick animals. For animals that are already severe, of course, we will survive and in the grave," he explained.

The population of cattle in Central Java currently reaches 5.5 million, where the most population areas are in Sragen and Wonogiri.
