Agus Bentung Detained In West Lombok Prison

The public prosecutor at the Mataram District Attorney's Office, West Nusa Tenggara, detained a suspect in a sexual harassment case with the initials IWAS alias Agus Bentung at the Class II A Penitentiary in West Lombok.

"So starting today for the next 20 days, we have entrusted the person concerned with his first detention at the Class II A Prison in West Lombok," said Head of the Mataram Kejari Ivan Jaka as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 9.

The prosecutor's consideration of transferring Agus' detention status from the previous investigation stage of the house arrest police to detention center saw the threat of punishment from criminal charges applied in the case file.

"In addition to the threat of criminal penalties, we consider the number of victims which exceed 15 people," he said.

The public prosecutor also previously rejected the application of the suspect to continue serving the status of house arrest, given the condition of the suspect as a victim without two arms.

Ivan emphasized that his party guarantees the fulfillment of the suspect's rights as a victim of prosecution in serving prison status at Class II A Prison in West Lombok.

"We guarantee that the suspect will receive special facilities and assistance while undergoing detention at the Class II A Prison in West Lombok," he said.

In the case file, Agus faces a sentence of 12 years in prison according to the suspicion of Article 6 letter A and/or letter C in conjunction with Article 15 paragraph (1) letter E of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence.
