The Attorney General's Office Examines Former Tom Lembong's Subordinates In The Corruption Case Of Importing Sugar From The Ministry Of Trade

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) examined five witnesses regarding the alleged corruption in sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) for the 2015-2016 period. Four of them were Tom Lembong's former subordinates while serving as Minister of Trade.

Kapuspenkum AGO Harli Siregar said the examination was carried out on Wednesday, January 8. The witnesses examined included GNY (Specific staff of the Minister of Trade), RJB (Director of Bupokting), SH (Kasubdit Bupokting), and SA (former Director General of Domestic Trade). One other witness is ALF, staff at Angels Products.

"The examination was carried out to strengthen the evidence and complete the filing," said Harli on Thursday, January 9.

In this case, Tom Lembong was named a suspect for granting a sugar import permit of 105,000 tons to private companies, violating regulations that only allow SOEs to import sugar.

He was charged with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 Juncto Article 18 of the Anti-Corruption Law and Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Investigations are still ongoing to reveal the involvement of other parties.
