Malaysian Crew Of Tongkang Ship Found Dead Drowning In Siak River

The joint team found a Malaysian citizen, a tugboat crew or Tongkang BG Mcl Persada on behalf of Mohammad Zafir (21) who died in the Siak River, Siak Regency, Riau.

"The victim was found on the second day, Monday (6/1) at 23.10 WIB and is dead, about 2 kilometers downstream from the location of the sinking," said Head of the Water and Air Police Unit of the Siak Resort Police, AKP Jefri A Purba, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 7.

The drowning victim allegedly fell from a barge while releasing a tug About at the Tambatan Imin Port Area, Rantau Panjang Village, Kotogasib District, Sunday (5/1).

After removing the rope with six of his co-workers, when they gathered at one point to wait for the pick-up, the victim was no longer on the barge.

Kasat said that when he released the rope, the entire crew of the ship on the barge did not use life jackets. In addition, the condition of the Siak River area in Rantau Panjang Village is close to the edge of the bridge and there is no barrier so it is dangerous for the community.

One of the crew reported to the captain and estimated the victim fell into the river.

After receiving the report, the captain and all his shipmates assisted by the local community immediately searched for victims using a canoe around the scene but had not been found. Until finally the joint team found the victim the next day.
