JAKARTA - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas said he had processed a request for the naturalization of one soccer player of Indonesian descent to defend the national team.
However, Supratman admitted that he forgot the name of the football player in question.
"There is one that we have processed, yes. But the other has not yet received a request from us," Supratman said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 7.
Supratman said the naturalization application was submitted by the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) recently.
Previously, PSSI admitted that it did not close the door to naturalize descendants to strengthen the Indonesian national team to compete in the world arena.
"We need the 150 best players consisting of Indonesian players or Indonesian players abroad who want to support Merah Putih," said PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir at the Bali United Training Center at Purnama Beach, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, Saturday (23/11/2024).
Even so, he did not reveal the names of the candidate players who would undergo naturalization.
Currently, the Minister of SOEs continued, his party is focusing on completing the naturalization process of Dutch player Ole Romeny.
