Judge Sentenced To Death Drug Dealer In Pasaman West Sumatra

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Lubuk Attitude District Court (PN), Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, sentenced a drug dealer Nanda Dwi Yandra Saputra (30) to death.

"The panel of judges considers that the defendant is legally proven guilty of committing a narcotics crime as stipulated in Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics. The verdict was read out on Monday (6/1)," said the Head of the Pasaman District Attorney Sobeng Suradal accompanied by the Head of the Intelligence Section (Kasi Intel) Erik as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 7.

In addition to punishing one defendant with the death penalty, the panel also sentenced three other defendants in the case, namely Ridho Afrinaldy (31) and Romadi (28) to life imprisonment and defendant M. Alfikar (42) to 20 years in prison.

He said that from the hands of the four defendants, 141.7 kilograms of marijuana were secured.

Erik explained that on April 29, 2024, the West Sumatra Province National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested suspect M. Alfikar at Jl. By Pass, Nagari Fort Market, Tanjung Beringin, Lubuk Attitude District, Pasaman Regency.

After a search was carried out on the car driven by M. Alfikar, namely a black Daihatsu Xenia bus mini vehicle with police plate BA 1482 ND, it was found that four large or 141 large packages of marijuana were found.

"After weighing at the Tarandam Branch Pegadaian Office in Padang City, 141.7 kilograms of marijuana were obtained," he said.

The results of the West Sumatra BNN investigators' interrogation of M. Alfikar, it is known that the drugs belonged to Ridho Afrinaldy, who is a resident of the Padang Class IA Insulation Institute (Lapas).

Then the West Sumatra BNN picked up the suspect Ridho Afrinaldy and was taken to the West Sumatra Provincial BNN Office for examination.

After being developed by investigators, two other suspects were arrested, namely the defendant Nanda Dwi Yandra Saputra and the defendant Romadi.

"So in this case there are four people with different roles," he said

In the prosecution's demands, the four defendants were charged with the death penalty. However, according to the verdict of the panel of judges, only one person was sentenced to death.

Regarding this decision, he said, the defendants and prosecutors expressed their thoughts as the guidelines of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24 of 2021 regarding the handling of general criminal cases.

"The guidelines read that if the defendant appeals, the Public Prosecutor is obliged to appeal in terms of defending his demands," he said.

The defendants are now undergoing temporary detention at the Class II B State Detention Center, Lubuk Attitude.
