BENGKULU - Bengkulu City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), installed 75 disaster evacuation signs and six tsunami warning sirens in six disaster-resilient areas this year.

The evacuation signs were installed to provide instructions to the community regarding the evacuation route and the safest gathering point when a tsunami disaster occurs.

"For disaster signs related to the evacuation direction, 75 units and six tsunami sirens were installed at six points," said Head of BPBD Bengkulu City Will Hopi in Bengkulu, Tuesday, January 7, quoted by Antara.

He said the installation of signs and sirens would be carried out at the end of January 2025 in six disaster-resilient villages in Bengkulu City.

The six disaster-resilient villages consist of Lemcurang Village, Malabero Village, File Village, Lowering Village, Beringin Raya Village and Pasar Bengkulu Village.

Previously, in 2024 the Bengkulu City BPBD installed 300 disaster evacuation signs in all urban villages in the area to anticipate disasters during the hydrometeorological season.

The addition of these signs can anticipate disasters in Bengkulu City, especially sub-districts prone to disasters such as earthquake tsunamis, floods and landslides, and can increase public awareness regarding information related to evacuation routes.

"We also cooperate with BMKG, each area is made three to four gathering points. So we already know where to save ourselves and their families when a disaster occurs," he said.

In addition, his party also installed a disaster evacuation map board that functions to provide detailed information to the public, such as potential and impact disasters, anticipation, readiness and determination of safe points in the area.

"This evacuation map has information that can be easily read and understood by the public so that it can increase vigilance. With this understanding, it is hoped that people will not panic and take effective steps when a disaster occurs," he said.
