The Perpetrator of Rental Boss Shooting on Tangerang-Merak Toll Road is Indonesian Navy Member Carrying Firearm Due to Adjutant Duty

JAKARTA - Commander of the Indonesian Navy Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada) Vice Admiral Denih Hendrata revealed that the Indonesian Navy member involved in the shooting case on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Sergeant AA, carried a firearm because of his duties as an adjutant.

According to him, an adjutant has a standard operating procedure (SOP) attached to the use of firearms. The weapon he used was also an inventory belonging to the Indonesian Navy.

"There is already an SOP, there is a warrant and all sorts, of course it is not a homemade weapon," said Denih at the Indonesian Navy Fleet Command Headquarters, Jakarta, Monday, January 6, as quoted by Antara.

He said that the use of the weapon was attached to the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) member who served as an adjutant to protect himself and the officials he was escorting. Because if something happens, the first person to secure the official is the adjutant.

However, he has not explained the identity of the military official who was escorted by the Indonesian Navy member who served as an adjutant. He will also evaluate the use of firearms.

On the other hand, according to him, the shooting on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road occurred because previously there was a mob attack on the TNI member by around 15 people.

Anyone who is cornered to the point of being ganged up on, according to him, will defend themselves and use something to save themselves. Moreover, a soldier is trained when facing such a situation.

"How about speed factors, instincts, all sorts. We often hear the term kill or be killed," he said.

For the incident that caused a citizen to die, he said the Indonesian Navy also expressed its condolences. The Indonesian Navy will also immediately visit the victim's funeral home.

"Of course, condolences and there is assistance that we can provide to them," he said.

Previously, the police revealed that the shooting on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road involving TNI AL personnel that caused a victim to die was related to a problematic rental car. There were three members involved, namely Sergeant AA, Sergeant RH, and KLK BA.

The case was a case of embezzlement in accordance with Article 372 of the Criminal Code, against a rented car. From a series of transfers of the rented car, it then ended in a shooting case by TNI members after an attempt was made to search for the car by the car rental provider.
