PALU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) stated that the Rapid Response Team (TRC) was still conducting an assessment of the impact of flash floods that hit mining areas in North Morowali Regency (Morut).
"Currently the team is conducting an assessment and coordinating with the North Morowali Regency BPBD TRC. The current situation is not yet rainy," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Central Sulawesi BPBD Andi Sembiring as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 4.
Based on reports, floods occurred in the nickel mining industrial area owned by PT Surya Amindo Perkasa in Ganda Ganda Village, Petasia District, North Morowali Regency.
The incident occurred on Friday (3/1) triggered by heavy rains that flushed the district with a long intensity.
"The information we received was that three people suffered minor injuries and one person was reported dead," he said.
According to a Central Sulawesi BPBD report, the impact of flooding damaged the bank/cellential in the company area and workers fled to a safe place.
"Until this morning there were no affected residents' houses, temporary information like that," he said.

Currently, the North Morowali BPBD continues to collect data on displaced residents and the urgent needs needed.
It was reported that most areas in North Morowali were still raining, therefore BPBD appealed to residents to remain vigilant, especially residents living around riverbanks and mountain slopes, including areas that have a history of flash floods.
"We continue to monitor the situation on the ground. We hope that the community will strengthen mitigation more independently," said Andi.
