PSI Protests The Determination Of The Jakarta City/Regency Council 2024-2029, Calls Not Involving DPRD

JAKARTA - Chairman of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD William Aditya Sarana opposed the determination of members of the Jakarta City/Regency Council for the period 2024-2029 which was recently confirmed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

The determination of the list of members of the City/Regency Council is contained in the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 854 of 2024 concerning the Determination of City/Regency Council Members for the 2024-2029 Period.

William emphasized that the process of determining the City Council/Regency for this new period did not involve the DPRD, so it was considered an administrative defect. This is what makes PSI's basis for protesting the determination.

"We have found strong indications that the process of determining members of the City/Regency Council does not involve the DPRD as stipulated in Article 15 of Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2011. This is a serious violation of the principles of transparency and accountability which should be upheld by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," William said in his statement, Thursday, January 2.

In Article 15 of Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2011 concerning City Councils/Regency Councils, it is stated that the Governor of DKI needs to ask for approval from the DPRD before establishing a member of the Jakarta City Council/Regency.

William assessed that, without the involvement of the DPRD, the determination of the city / district council has the potential to cause public distrust of the institution's legitimacy.

In addition, this violation can have an impact on the smooth function of the City/Regency Council as community partners at the regional level.

Therefore, the PSI faction demanded clarification from the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, regarding the legal process and basis used in determining the members of the City/Regency Council.

"We urge for full transparency from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government regarding this issue. Corrective steps must be taken immediately if there is a procedural violation," added William.

For information, Jakarta City/Regency Council Members come from figures who represent the sub-district community and the number of members is in accordance with the number of sub-districts in DKI Jakarta.

Several tasks of city/district council members include helping mayors/regents in organizing city/district governments, then playing a role as well as in implementing development and improving community services.

Members of the city / district council are also tasked with accommodating and channeling the aspirations of the community to the Mayor / Regent to mobilize and encourage community participation in the implementation of development and services to the community.
