Residents Of Pekon Tanggamus Died Attacked By Wild Elephants, Their Houses Were Damaged

JAKARTA - Suarni (63), a resident of Pekon (Village) Gunung Doh, Bandar Negeri Semuong (BNS) District, Tanggamus Lampung Regency, died at his home as a result of being attacked by dozens of wild elephants.

Based on amateur videos from residents circulating widely on social media, it was seen that the house of the victim was destroyed by a herd of wild elephants in the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park Forest (TNBBS) area.

Not only the victim's house, in the amateur video, Suarni's body was scattered which was allegedly attacked by wild elephants.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 01.30 WIB in the morning.

The Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Police, Kombes Umi Fadillah Astutik, confirmed that the wild elephant attack occurred in the early hours of Monday which resulted in the death of one of the residents in BNS.

"Yes, this incident took place in the TNBBS forest register area, precisely in Blog 3 of Talang Badar Village," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 30.

He explained that the wild elephant attack resulted in the victim's death in a pathetic condition.

According to him, a joint team from the police, TNI, and the TNBBS management are currently still at the location to evacuate and deepen the cause of the incident.

"We are still at the location for the evacuation process. Further information will be delivered soon," he said.
