Palembang Once Again Becomes The COVID-19 Red Zone Despite The Implementation Of Micro-Scale Community Activity Restrictions

PALEMBANG - The city of Palembang, South Sumatra, once again becomes the red zone category for the spread of COVID-19 even though it is still in the period of Enactment of Micro-scale Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

Based on data from the Palembang City Government as of April 14, the number of positive cases reached 9.347 cases or increased by 31 cases daily.

"It is not comprehensive, there are two sub-districts that are in the red zone because we are currently in PPKM, so the case of the sub-district has put Palembang into the red zone", said Palembang Mayor, Harnojoyo as quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 15.

There are also two sub-districts, namely Ilir Barat (IB) I District and Sako District. In IB I sub-district there were 1.344 positive cases and 3.252 suspected cases, the number of cases who died was 51 people.

Meanwhile, for Sako District, there were 758 positive cases and 1.978 suspected cases, while 22 people died.

Harnojoyo explained that the municipal government continues to provide socialization of health protocols in the field. The PPKM was enforced in accordance with the rules in the Mayor's Regulation (Perwali) regarding Large-scale Social Distancing (PSBB) COVID-19 which was issued in May 2020.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru said that Palembang's red zone was a reflection of daily COVID-19 cases.

"That's daily fluctuation. We will remind the ranks from the neighborhood levels regarding current developments", he said.

The governor also asked regions that were still implementing the PPKM to continue to implement it in accordance with the applicable regulations.
