JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka alluded to his dismissal from the PDI-P while attending the inauguration of the new Catholic youth board at the Church Guardian Conference (KWI) Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 17 evening.
In his remarks, Gibran did not directly use the term "fired," but said he had been "expelled" from the party.
"Congratulations to the chairman and his staff who have just been inaugurated tonight. So, actually Mas Gusma is in the same fate as me, has just been expelled from the party," said Gibran, referring to the General Chairperson of PP Pemuda Catholic for the 2024 '2027 period, Stefanus Asat Gusma.
Gibran and Gusma share the same as a former PDI-P cadre who is no longer part of the party. Gusma previously resigned as a cadre and administrator of PDIP in January 2024, after expressing his support for the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair in the 2024 presidential election.
Meanwhile, Gibran was officially dismissed from PDIP as of December 14, 2024, as stated in the dismissal decision signed by PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.

In the same decision, PDIP also fired Joko Widodo, who has joined PDIP since 2014, and Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, who has been a cadre since 2020. This dismissal was carried out after the political steps taken by Gibran, Jokowi, and Bobby were considered contrary to the direction of the party.
Gibran admitted that he respected the decision and stated that he still respected the party that had raised its name.
"We respect and respect the party's decision," said Gibran when met at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Tuesday (17/12) morning, after releasing the departure of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Egypt.
