JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Maruli Simanjuntak said his party was working on a restructuring plan within the Indonesian Army to support government work programs.

Previously, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) Lt. Gen. Tandyo Budi Revita revealed plans for restructuring within the Indonesian Army to support government programs, including self-sufficiency in food and nutritious food.

In the Food Self-Sufficiency Coordination Meeting in Jakarta with the Ministry of Agriculture, Thursday, Tandyo said the restructuring discourse was to optimize the role and support of the Indonesian Army for the food self-sufficiency program.

"Later there will be a large restructuring of the Army to be able to support the government program, which in the next five years we must achieve together," said the Deputy Chief of Staff when speaking on behalf of the Army Chief of Staff in front of more than 300 military district commanders (Dandim) during the meeting.

He said the Ministry of Agriculture as the main person in charge (leading sector) of food self-sufficiency involved several ministries/agencies, the police, and the TNI, including the Army, to print millions of hectares of rice fields to accelerate the achievement of food self-sufficiency.

The Deputy Army Chief of Staff emphasized that the TNI AD is fully committed to supporting the government in achieving food self-sufficiency because food independence supports national defense strategies, the security defense system of the people of the universe (sishankamrata).

Therefore, Tandyo instructed the ranks of the Dandim to create breakthroughs in carrying out food self-sufficiency programs. He also asked the Dandim to take advantage of combat units in their respective regions for the food self-sufficiency program.

Regarding the restructuring plan, the Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana when contacted in Jakarta, Thursday, explained the purpose of the restructuring of the Indonesian Army, which was mentioned by the Deputy Chief of Staff.
