JAKARTA - The United Nations is against any form of attack on Syria, along with the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's administration, when Israel attacked a number of military targets in various cities in Syria.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday the United Nations opposed any form of violation of the integrity of Syrian territory, when asked about Israel's attack on its neighboring country.
"We are against this type of attack. I think this is a turning point for Syria. Neighboring countries should not use it to violate Syrian territory borders," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
Israel launched attacks on Syrian military targets, including strategic weapons to military facilities in a wave of attacks after rebel groups entered Damascus and toppled President Assad on weekends.
Israeli fighter jets have reportedly launched attacks on more than 350 targets, ranging from military air lapanagn to weapons and missile production sites. Syrian naval ships in Latakia were also targeted for attack.
Israeli officials said it was done to destroy strategic weapons and military infrastructure so as not to be used by rebel groups, some of which are related to ISIS and al Qaeda.
