JAKARTA The Indonesian government targets the transfer of the central government to the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) in East Kalimantan to be realized in 2028. The head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi, stated that this would be done after IKN was able to carry out its function as a political capital.
"The president said that the government will move to IKN after IKN can play a function as the capital of politics. This means that there are already executive, legislative and judicial offices there," Hasan said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 10.
Hasan added, the development of IKN continues with the support of the government through the IKN Authority. If there are no obstacles, the target to move the government is projected to be achieved by 2028 or no later than 2029.
The IKN Authority stated that one of the projects currently in the preparation stage was the construction of the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) building, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), as well as facilities for the TNI and Polri.
The head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, revealed that the construction of these buildings is currently in the revised stage of the Budget Implementation List (DIPA).
"The DIPA revision is ongoing. After completion, it will be followed by the signing of the contract, so that the project can be implemented immediately," said Basuki in Jakarta, Monday.
Buildings for the Ministry of Defense, BIN, TNI, and Polri have gone through the auction process and determination, but the signing of the construction contract is waiting for the completion of the DIPA revision.

The government remains committed to continuing the development of IKN as the center of Indonesia's new government. Hasan emphasized that the transfer of government to IKN aims to create equitable development and reduce the burden on Jakarta as the capital city.
With developments that continue to be monitored, it is hoped that IKN will soon become a fully functioning center of government according to the target.
