The Ministry of Public Works (PU) said the progress of the West Sumatra Dharmasraya Market development had reached around 80 percent. It is targeted that this market infrastructure can be completed by the end of December 2024.

"Currently, the progress of the Dharmasraya Market work is close to 80 percent and is targeted to be completed by the end of December 2024," said Acting Director General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of Public Works Endra S. Atmawidjaja in a written statement, Saturday, December 7.

Endra said that the development and rehabilitation of the market was focused on increasing market function as a center of trade and backbone of the local economy.

"In accordance with President Prabowo's message, we want to produce a quality market and meet the expectations of the community and traders, namely a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly market, and of course it is always crowded with residents," he said.

It is known that the construction of the Dharmasraya Market was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works through the West Sumatra Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW).

The construction of the Dharmasraya Market consists of 2 types of buildings. The dry market covers an area of 9,669 square meters which will be built with a construction of 2 floors and a wet market covering an area of 1,574 square meters. This market is designed to accommodate up to 788 traders, covering 347 kiosks, 66 table stalls and hundreds of stretch areas.

According to Endra, the existence of quality market infrastructure is expected to provide tangible benefits. Especially, in ensuring the smooth distribution of basic commodities and encouraging equitable real sectors and MSMEs.

"With the completion of this market, we hope that traders and local residents can immediately use it. We will also coordinate the agenda for the inauguration of this market with the relevant city/district government in the near future," he concluded.
