The North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati North Sumatra) arrested a man with the initials AWS as a fake prosecutor suspected of extorting a businessman in Medan City, North Sumatra.
"The AWS perpetrator and his friend with the initials HPN were arrested by the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office for alleged extortion," said Head of North Sumatra Attorney General's Office, Adre Wanda Ginting, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 5.
AWS extorted DS, a businessman in the Medan area on behalf of the Prosecutor's Office.
The alleged extortion case involving a fake prosecutor was revealed after the victim DS received a message from AWS claiming to be a prosecutor at the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office Intel.
"On Tuesday (3/12), AWS forced DS to meet immediately because there was something he wanted to convey," said Adre.
DS had told his friend about this incident, before deciding to contact the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office and agreed to meet at a coffee shop in the Sei Sikambing area, Medan City.
"When he arrived at the location, DS met with AWS who introduced himself to the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office Intel and showed an ID card. Before long, HPN was previously known by DS to appear and join," he explained.
AWS then threatened that a laboratory procurement project carried out by DS in Sibolga City, North Sumatra, had problems and asked for some money so that the matter was resolved.
"AWS also admitted that he needed help to take care of the position of Head of Intelligence at the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office. AWS asked for Rp1 million from DS," explained Adre.
