Approved To Be The Chair Of The KPK, Puan Maharani's Message To Setyo Budiyanto: Don't Politicize Corruption Enforcement

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives officially approved the five leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the period 2024-2029 and was ratified at a plenary meeting, Thursday, December 5, 2024. In the meeting, Setyo Budiyanto was appointed as Chairman of the KPK 2024-2029.

As the new chairman of the KPK, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hopes that Setyo Budiyanto can anticipate and mitigate corruption in Indonesia.

"Hopefully he will become a person who can anticipate corruption, mitigate corruption," said Puan to reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, December 5.

Puan also advised the elected KPK leadership not to politicize the law enforcement process related to corruption cases at the KPK. Puan wants the KPK leadership to enforce the law as well as possible.

"Then there should be no politicization in the enforcement of corruption, so as much as possible, the best thing is to eradicate corruption," said the chairman of the PDIP DPP.

Previously, it was reported that the plenary session of the DPR RI ratified five leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the period 2024-2029. The five elected KPK leaders were based on the results of the fit and proper test at Commission III of the DPR.

In a meeting chaired by Puan Maharani, Setyo Budiyanto was appointed as Chairman of the KPK for the period 2024-2029. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Speakers of the Indonesian House of Representatives, including Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Saan Mustopa, Adies Kadir, and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal.

Initially, the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, submitted a report regarding the results of the fit and proper test from five KPK leaders.

"Based on the recapitulation, the elected 2024-2029 KPK Capim is, first Setyo Budiyanto as chairman," said Habiburokhman in a plenary meeting.

"Second, Johanis Tanak as vice chairman. Third, Fitroh Rohayanto as vice chairman, fourth Agus Joko Pramono as vice chairman and finally Ibnu Basuki as deputy chairman," he continued.

Then, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked the members of the DPR who were present at the plenary session whether the five KPK leaders for the 2024-2029 period could be ratified.

"Can the DPR Commission III report on the feasibility test on the candidate for the leadership of the KPK, mas, 2024-2029, be approved?" said Puan, answered that she agreed by the members of the Council.

The following are 5 KPK leaders for the 2024-2029 period which were ratified by the DPR:

1. Setyo Budiyanto (Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture)

2. Fitroh Rohcahyanto (former Director of Prosecution of the KPK)

3. Ibnu Basuki Widodo (Junior of the Manado High Court)

4. Johanis Tanak (Deputy Chairperson of the KPK for the 2019-2024 period)

5. Agus Joko Pramono (Deputy Chairperson of BPK for the 2019-2023 period)
