Magetan Police Handle 14 Drug Cases During January-May 2025

The Magetan Resort Police (Polres), East Java, handled 14 cases of drug abuse and trafficking during January to May 2025 that occurred in the jurisdiction of the local police.

"As of May 2025, we have handled 14 cases of narcotics abuse in the jurisdiction of the Magetan Police," said Head of the Magetan Police Narcotics Unit Iptu Dhanang Tri Widodo in Magetan, Saturday.

According to him, this number increased from 2024 in the same period handled by his staff, namely 10 cases, or an increase of 40 percent.

"Not only in terms of the number of cases, but from the large amount of evidence confiscated also increased. In this year's disclosure, the police confiscated 37 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 8.45 grams of dried marijuana, and 31 ecstasy pills. Last year around 14 grams of crystal methamphetamine," he said.

Dhanang explained that there are two important approaches in dealing with drugs, namely eradication and prevention. Eradication efforts are carried out through legal action, while prevention efforts are focused on education to the younger generation.

"We are actively entering and conducting socialization to schools, especially junior high and high school equivalent. Youth is a vulnerable age, because of high curiosity. We carry out education and socialization about the dangers of drugs and invite students to focus on the future," he said.

He added that the majority of drug users in Magetan come from teenagers and are of productive age. The mode that is often found is the assumption that drugs can increase energy, even though the effect is physically and mentally damaging.

"Essentially, when you are young, don't get involved in drugs. Because drugs keep us away from achievement. That's what we emphasize to students," he said.

The police and other legal institutions hope that the community will play an active role in preventing drug trafficking in their respective environments. Including family, as the closest scope of the younger generation.
