East Java Police Failed Circulation Of 166.58 Kilograms Of Marijuana

The East Java Regional Police (Polda) together with Malang City Police thwarted the circulation of marijuana with a total weight of 166.58 kilograms from the interprovincial network.

East Java Police Chief Inspector General Imam Sugianto said the disclosure of the case came from a police report that included six suspects.

"We reveal the circulation of 166.58 kilograms of marijuana in the Malang City area," said Imam as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 3.

The six suspects arrested were CRZ, ADB, AJ, DIK, SUK, and RID.

Imam explained that the disclosure of the marijuana distribution began with the arrest of two suspects, namely CRZ and ADB by the Malang City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit.

The two suspects were arrested at a boarding house located in Bareng Village, Klojen District, Malang City, on September 11, 2024.

"Evidence was also found in the form of marijuana weighing three kilograms," he said.

Furthermore, on the same day and place, local police officers also arrested another suspect with the initials AJ and confiscated evidence in the form of marijuana weighing 79.55 grams.

After arresting the three people, the police immediately carried out a case development and received reports of large quantities of marijuana shipments from outside Java to the Malang area.

Imam said that some of the marijuana is planned to be sent to Jakarta using an expedition service or delivery of goods between regions.

Officers from Malang City Police were dispatched to conduct a search and were finally able to thwart the shipment of marijuana weighing a total of 36.2 kilograms.

"Officers immediately hunted down someone whose identity we have pocketed and are residents of Karangploso, Malang Regency. Three were arrested, namely DIK, RID, and SUK," he said.

The three were arrested in one of the houses located in Leces Hamlet, Ngijo Village, Karangploso District, Malang Regency.

"The DIK suspect also took the officer to a rented house not far from the place of arrest and there was evidence in the form of marijuana weighing 41.2 kilograms. Then there was more marijuana in the truck tub in front of the rented house weighing 86.1 kilograms," he said.

Based on the information of the suspect DIK, the marijuana was originally sent to Malang City from Medan, North Sumatra using a truck driven by RID and SUK weighing 166.58 kilograms.

But upon arrival on Jalan Raya Diponegoro, Grimoyo Hamlet, Karangploso District, as much as three kilograms of marijuana were handed over to suspects CRIZ and ADB.

"We have secured the remaining 163.58 kilograms from the suspects DIK, RID, and SUK in Malang Regency," said Imam.

As a result of his actions, the six suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) and/or Article 111 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Law.RI. No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"The sentence is death penalty, life imprisonment or imprisonment for a minimum of six years and a maximum of 20 years with a fine of at least Rp. 1 billion and a maximum of Rp. 10 billion plus a third," he said.
