Trump Calls Biden's Move to Pardon Son an Injustice, Abuse of Law

JAKARTA - US President-elect Donald Trump considers the move by incumbent White House Leader Joe Biden to pardon his son Hunter Biden as an abuse and injustice of the law.

In addition to Trump, his colleagues in the Republican Party also criticized President Biden's pardon move.

"Does Joe's Pardon for Hunter include Hostage J-6, who has now been in prison for years? What an abuse and injustice of the law!" Trump said in a post on his Truth Social website, referring to those convicted of storming the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, after Trump falsely claimed he had won the 2020 general election, reported Reuters December 2.

Previously, President Biden announced on Sunday that he had signed Hunter's pardon, arguing in a statement that the charges his son faced arose for political reasons.

"No reasonable person looking at the facts of Hunter's case could come to any other conclusion than Hunter was chosen simply because he is my son — and that is wrong," President Biden said in a statement, quoted by The Hill.

"There has been an effort to destroy Hunter who has been sober for five and a half years, even in the face of relentless attacks and selective prosecution," he added.

"In trying to destroy Hunter, they have tried to destroy me and there is no reason to believe that it will stop here. Enough is enough," he added.

Separately, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement obtained by NewsNation, "the failed witch hunt against President Trump has proven the Democrat-controlled [Justice Department] and other radical prosecutors guilty of weaponizing the justice system."

"The justice system must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do when he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people," Cheung said.

In addition to Trump, his fellow Republicans in Congress have also criticized President Biden's decision to pardon his son Hunter.

Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said in X's social media posts on Sunday that the president "has lied from start to finish about his family's corrupt influence-peddling activities."

"Not only did he falsely claim that he never met with his son's foreign business associates and that his son did nothing wrong, but he also lied when he said he would not pardon Hunter Biden," Comer said.

While Trump has generally said amid Hunter Biden's federal weapons trial that he is treated better than most, he said late last month that he would not rule out pardoning the president's son if he wins this year's election.
