JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has increased supervision of railroad lines as an anticipatory measure against the rainy season in order to maintain the safety and smooth journey of the risk of landslides, floods, and collapsed lands.
KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said officers from the railroad infrastructure unit and the KAI bridge had taken preventive mitigation steps to ensure train travel remained safe and smooth during the rainy season.
"We have alerted additional officers and increased supervision at disaster-prone locations, as well as provided rail maintenance equipment and materials to be prepared at strategic points. In addition, related ranks in the Daop area and KAI Divre also carry out regular intensive checks on all railway lines," Anne said as quoted by Antara.
To support the smooth operation amid extreme weather challenges, KAI has prepared 335 Road Examination Officers (PPJ) in charge of monitoring the condition of the railway track regularly.
This was done to ensure that the route was safe from disruption due to high rainfall conditions and 151 Special Monitoring Regional Officers (Dapsus) who were alerted in vulnerable locations such as landslide-prone areas, floods, or unstable lands.
KAI has also prepared 663 security officers to secure station areas and train lines to ensure the safety of passengers from potential external disturbances. All of these extra officers have been given intensive training to improve their ability to deal with emergency situations during the rainy season's operations, explained Anne.
To support anticipatory steps, KAI has also prepared Materials for Alert (AMUS) which are spread over a number of strategic points. This AMUS consists of various equipment and materials that can be used immediately in case of an emergency.
He said that some materials are important for supporting anticipatory steps to strengthen the rail body, which includes spare rails, sacks filled with sand, cryicak, concrete pads and wood pads that have been prepared.
In addition, KAI also provides other equipment such as technical equipment such as jacks, rail cutting equipment, continued plates, and rail installations. Emergency equipment such as platoon tents, chainsaws, and H-beams for temporary repairs to bridges were also alerted.

As part of mitigation, KAI also increases supervision and intensive guarding in disaster-prone areas. These steps include land compactification in unstable areas, strengthening structures and installing roles in landslide-prone locations and increasing drainage capacity in flood-prone areas.
"KAI continues to be committed to providing the best service to customers, especially in ensuring the safety of train travel during the rainy season. We hope this step can minimize potential disturbances so that customers can enjoy the journey safely, safely, and comfortably," said Anne.
