Ukraine: Russian Missiles That Hit Dnipro At 13 Thousand Km/hour, Take 15 Minutes To Reach Target

JAKARTA - The Russian missile that hit the city of Dnipro, Ukraine, reached a top speed of more than 13,000 kilometers per hour (8,000 mph). The missile takes about 15 minutes to reach the target since its launch.

"The flight time of this Russian missile has since been launched in the Astrakhan region until its impact in the city of Dnipro is 15 minutes," the Ukrainian military's Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) said.

The missile is equipped with six warheads, each equipped with six submunisions. The speed at the end of the track exceeds Mach 11," he added.

Mach is a supersonic speed measure. Mach 11 equals about 13,600 kph.

HUR explained the weapon most likely originated in the Kerdr missile complex, which Vadym Skibitsky said deputy chief was linked to the Orestnik system and was first tested in June 2021.

Skibitsky said Russia may have at least 10 more missiles to test before entering mass production, the Ukrinform news agency reported.

Kyiv initially suspected Russia fired intercontinental ballistic missiles, but US and NATO officials echoed Putin's description of the weapon as a medium-range ballistic missile.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry on Thursday urged the international community to react quickly to the attack.

NATO will hold an emergency meeting with Ukraine at the alliance headquarters in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss Moscow's attacks, NATO sources said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow attacked Ukrainian military facilities with a new medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile known as "Oreshnik" as a warning to the West not to support Ukraine's war efforts.

The attack came as fighting nearly three years and Ukraine fired long-range missiles supplied by its Western allies on target in Russia.
