Zulkifli Hasan Prays Not Many Victims Of The Malang Earthquake, Residents Asked To Be Patient

JAKARTA - Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan expressed his condolences for the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that shook Malang, East Java.

"The Malang earthquake that occurred this afternoon surprised us all. A magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale is certainly not a small earthquake. It feels up to Semarang and even Yogyakarta", Zulkifli said on his Twitter account @ZUL_Hasan.

The former MPR chairman hoped that Malang residents would be patient with the earthquake. He also invited all parties to pray for the people who were victims.

"We pray hopefully there are not many fatalities, either dead or injured. Hopefully, the people of Malang and surrounding areas are given protection and safety. Given fortitude and patience in the face of this disaster", said Zulhas.

To ease the burden on the people of Malang and surrounding areas affected by the earthquake, Zulhas urged all cadres in East Java Province to come down to the disaster site to help the victims.

"I urge pan cadres in East Java to come down to help and give as much help as possible. May God helps and protects us all", he wrote.

One Person in Lumajang Killed

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 shook Malang Regency, claimed lives. One resident of Lumajang Regency, East Java, died after being hit by a lump of rock on the Lumajang-Malang line.

"There was one person who died, after being hit by a lump of rock. There is also one person in Lumajang with minor injuries", said Kalaksa BPBD East Java, Yanuar Rachmadi, confirmed, Saturday, April 10.

However, Yanuar did not elaborate on the chronological details of the incident. He just said the Malang earthquake resulted in house buildings, public facilities such as mosques, schools, damage even collapsed.

According to him, the damage to the building occurred in several areas in East Java, such as in Malang, Pasuruan, Jember, Lumajang, Trenggalek, Blitar, Gresik, Kediri, and others. For example, in Malang Regency, people's houses and Majangtengah village office was lightly damaged.

Yanuar said that the Malang earthquake was felt by people in almost all areas in East Java. Among others, Malang, Blitar, Kediri, Trenggalek, Jombang, Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Bangkalan, Sampang, Sumenep, Pamekasan, Madiun, Ponorogo, Pacitan, Batu, Tuban, Nganjuk, Ngawi, and Gresik.

"People are experiencing tremors, light objects being hung swaying", he said.
