KPK Affirms That The Prohibition Of Overseas For Sahbirin Noor Is Still Valid

JAKARTA - The prohibition of traveling abroad against former South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor is still in effect. This was said by the spokesman for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Tessa Mahardika.

Tessa said the implementation of the foreign ban was not affected by the death of the suspect status against the person concerned through a pretrial process.

"The ban on going abroad is still in effect. It is not affected (pretrial)," he said as quoted by Antara.

The prohibition of traveling to Sahbirin Noor has been imposed by KPK investigators since October 7, 2024 and is valid for 6 months.

KPK investigators on Tuesday, October 8 announced the status of the suspect South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor in the alleged bribery case for project auctions in South Kalimantan.

However, Sahbirin Noor then filed a pretrial lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court (PN). South Jakarta District Court sole judge Afrizal Hady then granted part of Sahbirin Noor's pretrial lawsuit in a verdict hearing related to the alleged bribery case at the project auction.

The judge declared invalid and had no legal force to bind the determination of the suspect against the applicant.

In addition, it was also stated that the act of the respondent who named the applicant as a suspect was an arbitrary act.

"Declaring the sprindik is invalid," he said.

Regarding the pretrial decision, the KPK stated that it would first study the decision.

"KPK will soon study the minutes of the verdict to consider what the next steps will be taken," said Tessa.

Tessa said that the KPK regretted the South Jakarta District Court's decision to grant the lawsuit. However, the KPK will continue to respect the judge's decision.

He emphasized that the determination of the suspect against Sahbirin was in accordance with Law Number 19 of 2019 in conjunction with Article 44 of Law Number 30 of 2002, namely the determination of the suspect of at least two pieces of evidence.

"In the case that began with the arrest activity, the KPK named the suspect in the initial stage of the investigation with at least two pieces of evidence," he said.

As previously reported, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has received Sahbirin Noor's resignation letter as Governor of South Kalimantan on November 13, 2024 after serving for 8 years.

In his letter, Sahbirin declared his resignation in order to maintain the conduciveness of the government in South Kalimantan. The resignation letter has been submitted to the President and Minister of Home Affairs.

Sahbirin also expressed his apologies and hoped that development in South Kalimantan would continue smoothly.
