Rejang Lebong Police And TNKS Joint Team Arrest Perpetrators Of Logging

JAKARTA - A joint team from the Kerinci Seblat National Park Center (TNKS) and the Rejang Lebong Police, Bengkulu managed to arrest two suspects in illegal logging in the TNKS forest area in the area.

Rejang Lebong Deputy Police Chief Kompol Tekat Parmo at the Rejang Lebong Police Headquarters, said the two suspected perpetrators of illegal logging were AS (39) and AH (34), residents of Warung Pojok Village, Sindang Pulanjung District, Rejang Lebong Regency.

"The two suspects were arrested on November 9, 2024. Both of them were caught red-handed carrying out illegal logging activities inside the TNKS forest area in Karang Jaya Village, Selupu Rejang District," said Kompol Tekat, ANTARA, Saturday, November 16, 2024.

He explained that the joint team's success in uncovering the case of illegal logging in the TNKS forest area itself began when they were on patrol in the Karang Jaya Village area. While patrolling the team heard a chain saw from inside the TNKS area.

The existence of activities in the TNKS area, he said, was traced by a joint team by entering the TNKS forest and finding the two perpetrators were cutting, cutting and cutting wood. Joint officers also found several pieces of evidence including wood that had been cut and processed, so they were immediately taken to the police station.

According to him, for his actions, the two perpetrators of illegal logging were charged with Article 37 number 12 of the Job Creation Law with a maximum penalty of 5 years and a maximum fine of IDR 2.5 billion.

Head of the National Park Management Division Region III of the South Sumatra-Bengkulu TNKS M Mahfud invites all people in the region to take part in preserving forests, especially the TNKS area.

"If our forests continue to be damaged, natural disasters will occur. This TNKS area is the upstream of several large rivers including the Musi River," said Mahfud.
