JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections (PAS), the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) transferred as many as 88 prisoners with high risk to Nusakambangan as an effort to eradicate drug trafficking and abuse in prisons and detention centers.

Director of Security and Intelligence (Pamintel) of the Directorate General of PAS Teguh Yuswardhie said the transferred prisoners consisted of 40 high-risk convicts in the Banten area and 48 high-risk inmates in the East Java region.

"Based on the results of operations in a number of prisons, the convict is indicated and is suspected of still drug abuse, love scamming, and online fraud from prisons and detention centers," Teguh said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 14.

The transfer of prisoners was carried out this Thursday by involving members of the TNI, Polri, and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) coordinated by the Directorate General of PAS.

"This collaboration shows a cross-institutional commitment in creating prisons and remand centers that are free from drug trafficking and abuse," he said.

The transfer of prisoners is divided into two departure points, namely from the Class IIA Cilegon Prison for the Banten area and the Class IIA Madiun Youth Prison for the East Java region.

Furthermore, all the prisoners who were transferred will be placed in the Class IIA Karanganyar Special Prison which uses a super maximum security system.

"Hopefully, in addition to causing a deterrent effect, it will also cut off drug trafficking networks from prisons and remand centers," said Teguh.

In addition, this step is also an effort by the Directorate General of PAS in overcrowded in prisons and detention centers. This is also one of the 13 acceleration programs of the Ministry of Imipas.
