JAKARTA - Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accused European leaders on Tuesday of trying to escalate Ukraine's conflict in a dangerous manner, following the re-elect of former United States President Donald Trump.

Medvedev, a senior security official, wrote on Telegram, European politicians aim to "propelled the conflict with Russia into an irreversible phase" while they could and warned against allowing Kyiv to use Western long-range missiles to shoot targets inside Russia.

Medvedev rejects what he calls "ultimatum" issued by opposition leader Germany and subsequent chancellor Friedrich Merz about using such weapons by Ukraine as "general election".

"Obviously this missile was unable to change anything significantly in military operations", he said, quoted by Reuters on November 12.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed their support for Kyiv during talks in Paris on Monday.

Meanwhile, France's Foreign Minister urged Ukrainian allies not to prejudice about how Trump would deal with the conflict.

"In general, it is shocking to what extent the current generation of European politicians wants to drag the war into their territory", Medvedev said.

Medvedev himself previously said Trump's victory would likely be bad news for Ukraine.

Trump, a Republican, has repeatedly criticized the scale of West aid for Kyiv and has pledged to end the conflict quickly, without explaining how.
