JAKARTA - Member of Commission IV DPR RI Daniel Johan warned the Government not to misuse the policy of bad debt bleaching for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, and fishermen. He assessed that this progressive policy must be accompanied by a sustainable system.
"The policy of eliminating traffic jams, including for farmers and fishermen, is very good. But we must not allow abuse or abuse of this policy which will harm the people," said Daniel Johan, Wednesday (11/6/2024).
According to him, the policy of bleaching bad debts must receive an effective escort. That way, said Daniel, it will not become a new land for games for naughty people.
The process must be clear and transparent. And closely monitored. Don't let there be loopholes for fraudulent practices on behalf of the program," said Daniel.
On the other hand, the debt bleaching policy is considered only temporary when it comes to the welfare of MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen. Daniel hopes that the Government will increase programs that can improve the economy of farmer and fisherman groups.
"This step must be accompanied by comprehensive efforts to strengthen small and medium economic sectors," said the legislator from the West Kalimantan I electoral district.
"The government needs to provide the best program for them in order to survive the severity of economic dynamics and increase competitiveness," continued Daniel.
Daniel appreciated the purpose of the policy of eliminating traffic jams because it could ease the burden on MSMEs and farmers. Even so, he emphasized that the abolition of bad debts only provides a temporary solution and needs to be accompanied by a more sustainable strategy.
"It must be mapped at the root of the problems faced by people from the real sector, such as market access, increased productivity, price stability, and technology support. Thus, MSMEs can grow more independently without having to rely on debt elimination policies," he said.
As is known, President Prabowo Subianto officially issued Government Regulation (PP) Number 47 of 2024 concerning the elimination of bad debt for farmers and fishermen in Himbara banking. This PP was signed on November 5, 2024.
Daniel also encouraged the Government to make constructive investment policies or programs for MSME players in the agriculture, fisheries and plantation sectors. So that they can develop more independently and strongly without having to depend on debt assistance in the future.
"The government must think long-term and find ways to really empower MSMEs, and friends of farmers. Not just ease the burden on their current debt," said Daniel.
Daniel also saw the need for training to help MSMEs, farmers and fishermen to improve their quality and productivity.
"For example, financial management training, risk management, and business strategies for MSMEs, especially in the agriculture, fisheries and plantation sectors," he explained.
"With better management, MSME players will be able to manage their business more efficiently and avoid unnecessary debt," continued Daniel.
Furthermore, the member of the Commission in the DPR in charge of agricultural affairs emphasized the importance of the Government providing programs that reduce the dependence of MSMEs on debt assistance. According to Daniel, sustainable empowerment is far more important than just eliminating debt.
"We don't want MSMEs to feel dependent on government assistance every time they face financial challenges," said the member of the DPR who also served in the Legislation Body (Baleg).
Daniel said that inclusive policies do not only help MSMEs in the short term. But also prepare them to be better prepared to face future economic challenges.
"With increased independence, MSMEs are expected to survive economic fluctuations and become the backbone of a stronger national economy," concluded Daniel.
