JAKARTA - Traders at Serang Market, South Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, have asked the local government to control street vendors (PKL) who open stalls around the market.

The request was conveyed, among others, by Siti Komariyah (50), a trader in the market. He said the sales stalls were deserted because many street vendors sell along the main road in the area around the market, making it difficult for buyers to access kiosks in the inside of the market.

"Buyers are always there, their names are sustenance, but we hope that the street vendors in front can be arranged so that access is not hindered," said Siti Komariyah, ANTARA, Sunday, November 3, 2024.

He admitted that many kiosks in the market were empty due to the lack of buyers due to the existence of street vendors even though they had spent relatively large costs to buy or rent kiosks in the market.

"There are still many stalls inside that are empty. It's a pity that traders have bought hundreds of millions of rupiah in kiosks, but there are few buyers," he said.

Responding to the merchant's complaint, the Acting Regent of Bekasi, Dedy Supriyadi, stated that he had instructed the Bekasi Regency Trade Office to organize street vendors around the Serang Market area.

He stated that these efforts are expected to create a more orderly and orderly market environment as well as allow traders to compete in a healthy manner.

"I hope to make arrangements for street vendors so that they are organized and buyers can also walk into market kiosks," he said.
