BANGGAI - The Regional Research and Innovation Agency (Brida) and the Banggai Regency Government, Central Sulawesi created an application called 'Mangael Jo' to support capture fisheries activities in the district.

"This application provides information about fisheries for the efficiency of fishing activities," said Head of Brida Banggai A Nur Syamsyi Amir in Luwuk, Sunday.

He explained that the implementation of remote sensing satellite imagery into applications in the capture fisheries sector is important, as well as increasing the production of fishermen.

The application was launched in August 2024 in collaboration with the local government signed by the Regent of Banggai Amirudin Tamoreka and the Deputy for National Research and Innovation (BRIN) Yopi in Jakarta in February.

"The technology created will be the main means that allow fishermen to fish more efficiently with the help of satellite image data," he said.

He stated that with the help of the application, fishermen were no longer busy looking for fish gathering locations, but fishermen were able to find potential points.

Based on the information, it is believed that it can help fishermen increase their catch as well as help increase the income of coastal communities.

According to local government data, the results of Banggai's capture fisheries production are around 21,952 tons per year and in the area there are around 7,063 units of the fisheries fleet in supporting the sector.

"Our collaboration with the Banggai Regency Government is none other than increasing regional income while increasing fishermen's income," he said.
