Gibran Rakabuming's Business Before Occupying The Mayor's Seat Of Solo, From Catering To Martabak

JAKARTA - Before serving as Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka was well known as a young businessman. He chose to open a business as a catering and martabak entrepreneur.

The son of President Joko Widodo said he did not take a headache if his business choices were seen as different from the children of officials in general in Indonesia. Gibran who recently had a meeting with the former governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahok said he was happy in running his business at that time. Although he thinks his choice of business is against his father's will.

According to him, Jokowi wants Gibran to continue the furniture business that has been quite large. However, Gibran refused. He reasoned to start his business independently.

Chili Pari Catering Business

In 2010, Gibran started a catering company called Chili Pari. He started the business with the capital he earned from bank loans, not from his father who was then the Mayor of Solo. As for the reason behind his decision to choose the business, the man born in 1987 assessed a great opportunity to profit in the field of business.

"I see the market opportunity is there. People's weddings are for sure, wedding events are there all the time. Moreover, I have my own wedding hall. So one package. The market is clear, the buyers are clearly there," Gibran explained at the time.

As time went on, his business instincts turned out to be right. Gibran's catering business continues to grow. In fact, Chili Pari is not limited to catering only, but also wedding organizers to the manufacture of souvenirs, invitations, and pre-wedding photos.

Markobar Culinary Business

Around 2015, Gibran and some of his colleagues developed another culinary business known as 'Markobar', an acronym of Martabak Kota Baru. Martabak offers 8 flavors that become a mainstay and successfully get a place in the hearts of the community.

Now, Markobar has opened 29 branches spread across several regions in Indonesia.

Markobar also launched a new menu called Tipis Kering. Thin sweet martabak, which is crisp when bitten it is actually an old menu in the world martabak. The distinguishing thing is, The Thin Dry menu ala Markobar is more durable than similar menus elsewhere.

Not only Chili Pari and Markobar, Gibran also tried the coffee shop business and processed chicken ceker. Regarding the shadow of his business in the next 10 to 20 years, Gibran has a vision that Chili Pari can exist and penetrate other cities besides Solo. As for Markobar, he aspires to open branches in all major cities to Papua.
