CIREBON - Cirebon Police, West Java, handled and followed up allegations of persecution against the owner of the Padang restaurant (RM) which went viral on social media.

Cirebon Police Chief Kombes Sumarni said his party had communicated with the Padang Cirebon Restaurant Association (PRMPC) to clarify the incident.

"We have asked for clarification and communication with PRMPC to ensure that there are no acts of intimidation against traders," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 30.

During the meeting, according to him, PRMPC said that the incident was not an act of persecution, but rather a gathering to ask the reason for the lower selling price of the menu compared to the price on other Padang RMs.

"PRMPC clarified that they just wanted to stay in touch and ask about prices, not question excessively," he said.

The police, continued Sumarni, also asked PRMPC not to take actions that could cause inconvenience to traders.

The police chief emphasized the importance of giving freedom to traders in determining prices, especially if this is beneficial for small communities.

"We urge traders to continue to be given the freedom to set prices according to their abilities, especially if they help small communities," he said.

Meanwhile, PRMPC Advisor Erlinus Tahar apologized and clarified the incident.

He said the actions taken by PRMPC previously were aimed at maintaining price uniformity among RM Padang businessmen in Cirebon, without intending to persecution.

"This summons is not in a criminal context, but only clarifying the case," he said.

Erlinus said PRMPC is an independent association that is not affiliated with certain mass organizations.

Regarding the video circulating, he confirmed that the recording was uploaded personally by members and not an official statement from PRMPC.

"The video that went viral was not official from us, it's just that there were members who made videos and uploaded it on their personal account," he said.

He hopes that with this clarification, the public can understand their goals, in maintaining the quality and sustainability of RM Padang's business in Cirebon.
