JAKARTA - Climate change has become a world issue, especially in recent years. The EU Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Sujiro Seam has also encouraged people to start familiarizing small actions that pay attention to aspects of sustainability.

This will also have an impact on overcoming climate change, as stated by Sujiro when opening the Green Diplomacy Week in Jakarta, Sunday, October 27.

"If you see the lights on, turn it off. If the weather is hot, wear casual clothes instead of turning on the air conditioner. If you see garbage, collect them. Those are the little things you can do to support more sustainable development for the community and the planet," said Ambassador Seam when opening an event in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday (27/10).

The Green Diplomacy Week held by the European Union for ASEAN was held with the launch of the second edition of a 5 KM leisurely and dynamical run entitled "European-ASEAN Green Transition for Sustainable Planets and More Positive Impact".

Around 500 participants participated in events held along Jalan Sudirman leading to GBK, Senayan, including representatives from ASEAN, the European Union and member countries, youth and also residents with special needs.

Through the event, said the Ambassador, the European Union is committed to supporting their partners and ASEAN member countries in green transition efforts.

"This event shows our commitment to continue working together with ASEAN to create a greener, more sustainable and inclusive future," he said.

"This is an opportunity to encourage and motivate individuals, communities and organizations to take stronger action - to protect, preserve and restore our environment, for now and for future generations," he added.

The EU Green Diplomacy Week is one of the European Union's global campaigns to promote cooperation to tackle climate change.

"Over the years, ASEAN has shown its commitment to tackling climate change, including through multi-sectoral dialogue and relevant activities involving key partners in various sectors," said Jihan Abdul Rahman, Brunei Darussalam's Permanent Mission Business Authority for ASEAN, as State Coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations.

He highlighted the establishment of the ASEAN Climate Change Center aimed at facilitating regional climate change coordination and cooperation throughout Southeast Asia.

He also added that by emphasizing climate action, such as sustainable transportation, eliminating pollution, and ensuring a just transition for all, ASEAN, along with its partners, can build more resilient and more prepared regions to face the impact of climate change.
