JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono reiterated Indonesia's strong commitment to the people's struggle to achieve independence.

He said that when meeting with the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Hussein Al Sheikh on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, Wednesday.

"I will ensure that the Palestinian issue is always at the forefront of Indonesian diplomacy, and we will continue to stand tall with the Palestinian people," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wednesday, October 23 evening.

"This support to Palestine was also conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto during his inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2024," he added.

Regarding the situation in Palestine, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized three important things. First, repressing political support for Palestine including by continuing to push for a permanent ceasefire and other peace efforts towards a Two-State Solution.

Next, reaffirm Indonesia's commitment to humanitarian assistance to Palestine, both bilaterally and through UN agencies such as UNRWA and ILO.

"Third, affirming the importance of collective efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East region," he said.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said the BRICS meeting should be used to strengthen collaboration as a positive force to continue to seek peace in Palestine.

It is known that Foreign Minister Sugiono flew to Kazan, Russia, to take part in the 16th BRICS Summit which will be held on October 22-24.

Previously, in welcoming the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Foreign Minister Sugiono ensured that the Palestinian issue was one of the focuses of the ministry he led, in line with President Prabowo Subianto's speech after being inaugurated who would continue to fight for Palestinian media.
