3 Judges Become Suspects, KY Supports AGO To Completely Investigate Ronald Tannur's Free Verdict

The Judicial Commission supports and appreciates the firm steps taken by the Attorney General's Office which enforces the law against three judges of the Surabaya District Court (PN), East Java, related to the alleged bribery in the Gregorius Ronald Tannur case.

"KY supports the Attorney General's steps to enforce the law on the alleged bribery case. This certainly further injures the honor and dignity of a judge," said KY spokesman Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 23.

Mukti Fajar explained that KY had previously imposed severe sanctions for permanent dismissal with the right to retire to the three judges. KY has also proposed judges to be submitted to the Honorary Council of Judges (MKH).

MKH is a self-defense forum for judges who, based on the results of the examination, are found to have violated the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of Judges (KEPPH) and are proposed to be subject to severe sanctions in the form of dismissal.

According to Mukti Fajar, the sanctions recommendation has been submitted to the Supreme Court. However, the ethics trial process through the MKH was not because the Supreme Court at that time was still waiting for the cassation decision of the defendant Ronald Tannur.

"This OTT (hand-catching operation) incident will be an additional ingredient for KY to strengthen the dismissal," said Mukti Fajar, who is also a member of KY.

KY will continue to coordinate with the Supreme Court and the AGO to conduct an in-depth investigation in order to smooth the disclosure of the alleged bribery case at the Surabaya District Court.

Investigators of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO have named three judges who acquitted Ronald Tannur as suspects in alleged bribery or gratification. The three judges are Erintuah Damanik (ED), Heru Hanindyo (HH), and Mangapul (M).

The Director of Investigation at the Attorney General's Office, Abdul Qohar, explained that apart from the three judges, investigators also named Ronald Tannur's lawyer with the initials LR as a suspect as the bribe giver.

Previously, the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court, chaired by Erintuah Damanik, Wednesday (24/7), sentenced Ronald Tannur to acquittal for the murder of Dini Sera Afriyanti.

On the verdict, Thursday (25/7), the Surabaya District Attorney declared an appeal. Meanwhile, Dini's father and sister, Sera Afriyanti, Monday (29/7), reported the three judges who decided the case to KY for alleged violations of the KEPPH.

On Monday (26/8), KY imposed permanent dismissal sanctions with pension rights to the three judges who sentenced the acquittal.

According to KY, the three judges reportedly violated the KEPPH.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday (22/10) granted the public prosecutor's appeal regarding the defendant Gregorius Ronald Tannur who sentenced him to 5 years in prison. Thus, the Supreme Court canceled Ronald Tannur's acquittal.
