JAKARTA - After three months of closure, the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Center in Cipanas District, Cianjur, West Java, has reopened the climb. However, the number of climbers is limited according to health protocols and openings are adapted to weather conditions.

"The climb to Mount Gede Pangrango has been reopened one day before, but it is still situational after coordinating with BMKG which has stated that the climb can be done," said PR of BB TNGGP Poppy Oktadiani when contacted in Cianjur, reported by Antara, Tuesday, April 6.

He explained that the climbing of Mount Gede-Pangrango began to open since Monday, April 5, based on Circular Number 112 / EBTNGP / Tek.2 / 2/2021 and based on weather forecasts issued by Class III Meteorological Station Citeko Bogor.

Based on the results of monitoring by his party and BMKG, it has been possible for the climb to be reopened because he saw that the weather was not as extreme as some time ago, but the number of climbers was still limited to 300 people or 25 percent of the normal quota per day.

"The restrictions are carried out in an effort to maximize the application of health protocols because the pandemic is still ongoing. Temporary closings will be carried out again, if the weather is again unfriendly or extreme after coordinating with BMKG," he said.

Previously, BB TNGGP closed the climb to Mount Gede and Pangrango since the beginning of 2021 for ecosystem restoration and cleaning of the hiking trail from trash and extreme weather that could threaten the safety of climbers.

Even during the pandemic, several closings were carried out due to various factors including the anticipation of crowds on the hiking trail in an effort to implement strict health protocols to prevent the transmission of the corona virus.
