Iranian Foreign Minister: Hamas Will Not Stop After Sinwar's Death

Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi warned the US that the country would be responsible for any losses Iran may suffer if it supports anticipated Israeli attacks (Between).

JAKARTA - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi believes the killing of Hamas' political chief, Yahya Sinwar, will not be an excuse for the Palestinian movement to stop its activities.

"Sinwar's death will not stop Hamas activities, but will actually strengthen movement determination and motivate Palestinian youth," Araghchi said in an interview with Turkish broadcaster NTV.

He then highlighted the risk of conflict in many Middle Eastern countries, including Syria. According to him, Israel was unable to survive and even committed crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, without US support.

"If Washington had a real political will, they would be able to stop Israeli attacks and stop Israel. For us, the US is an ally of Zionists. If a large-scale war breaks out in the region, the US will be dragged into it, and we don't want this at all," Aragghchi said.

"The war may spread to Gulf countries. However, I believe there is still a chance for diplomacy, we cannot leave everything to the will of one person in the Zionist regime," he said, as reported by VOI from Sputnik.

Sinwar died with gunshot wounds to the head, CNN reports citing pathologist Chen Kugel, who conducted an autopsy on the body of the head of Hamas' political bureau.

On Thursday (17/10), the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officially announced that Sinwar, considered the main incitement and organizer of an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, had been killed in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military.

According to the military, Sinwar was killed on October 16. US President Joe Biden said US intelligence had helped Israel track down the Hamas leader.

US Vice President Kamala Harris said American special forces were also helping track down Sinwar. On Friday (18/10), Hamas acknowledged the death of the head of the movement's political bureau.
