Recent Impacts Seroja Tropical Cyclone Resulted In 8,424 Residents Evacuate, 128 People Died In NTT

JAKARTA - Extreme weather due to tropical cyclone Seroja still has the potential to occur in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region in the next few days. Several disasters that occurred last weekend triggered the displacement of more than 8,000 residents.

Based on data from the BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) as of Monday (5/4), at 23.00 WIB, 2,019 families or 8,424 residents were displaced and 1,083 families or 2,683 other residents were affected. Local governments continue to update data from rapid assessments in the field. The people who fled were scattered in five districts in the NTT Province.

The largest displacement identified was in East Sumba Regency with a total of 7,212 people (1,803 families), Lembata 958, Rote Ndao 672 (153 families), West Sumba 284 (63 families), and East Flores 256.

This tropical cyclone has an impact in 8 administrative districts and cities, including Kupang City, East Flores Regency, Malacca, Lembata, Ngada, West Sumba, East Sumba, Rote Ndao, and Alor. The total number of people who died (MD) was 128 people who died during extreme weather in some of these areas, with details of Lembata Regency 67 people, East Flores 49, and Alor 12.

The total number of missing victims reached 72 people, with details of 28 people from Alor Regency, 23 Flores Timur, and Lembata 21.

The extreme weather disasters in some of these areas also resulted in several total losses, including 1,962 housing units affected, 119 severely damaged housing units (RB), 118 moderately damaged housing units (RS), and 34 lightly damaged housing units (RR), while public facilities 14 units of RB, 1 RR and 84 other units were affected. The details of the damage to the residential sector are as follows.

Malacca Regency

- 1,154 housing units affected

- 65 public facilities affected

West Sumba Regency

- 54 housing units affected

East Sumba Regency

- 7 public facilities affected

Rote Ndao County

- 12 RB housing units

Alor Regency

- 21 housing units RB

- 106 housing units RS

- 6 public facilities RB

- 1 public facilities RR

- 11 public facilities affected

Regarding the post-incident, district and city BPBDs assisted by multi-stakeholders are continuing to handle disaster emergencies, such as evacuations, rescues, evacuation services, logistics distribution, and opening of access to isolated areas. Ministries and institutions under the control of BNPB also provide support to local governments affected by the tropical cyclone.
