Benny Laos' Wife Will Undergo Health Tests Before The North Maluku Cagub Campaign

JAKARTA - The wife of the late Benny Laos, Sherly Tjoanda, will undergo a medical examination to become a candidate for Governor of North Maluku to replace her husband who died in the ship fire incident.

Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said health tests would be carried out at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD).

"I heard today that the stage for the medical examination from the RSPAD hospital is because there are burns on the leg, the implementation cannot be carried out at the RSUD in Ternate," said Tito at the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Central Jakarta, Friday, October 18.

Sherly is also known to have been the victim of the ship explosion that Benny was traveling in. Sherly suffered burns and now her condition is starting to improve.

If she passes a medical test, then Sherly can undergo campaign activities in the remaining time until November 23, 2024.

"If you pass health, that means you will follow the next stage, campaign," said Tito.

Eight political parties (political parties) carrying the candidate pair for Governor/deputy Governor of North Maluku (Malut) Benny Laos-Sarbin Sehe officially registered Sherly Tjoanda to replace Benny as a candidate for governor of North Maluku.

The eight supporting political parties are the Nasdem Party DPP, PKB, Democrats, PAN, PPP, PSI Gelora, and the Labor Party.

The tragic incident that claimed the life of Benny Laos occurred on October 12, 2024, when the speedboat they were traveling in caught fire while refueling at Bobong Regional Port, Taliabu Island Regency.

Benny Laos died at the Bobong Hospital, while Sherly survived the incident.

Benny Laos previously served as Regent of Morotai (2017-2022) and is one of the popular figures in North Maluku.
