Survey: 10 Years Of Jokowi Leading, 52 Percent Of The Government's Value Often Violates The Constitution

JAKARTA - Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) released the results of a survey regarding the public perception of President Joko Widodo's 10 years of leadership from 2014 to 2024. As a result, 52 percent of respondents assessed that the government often violates the constitution or legislation.

"In 10 years of Jokowi's administration, perceptions of violations of the constitution and laws by the government jumped from 40 percent to 52 percent," said SMRC founder Saiful Mujani in a survey presentation, quoted on Wednesday, October 16.

In addition, in the last 10 years, the level of fear of political speech has increased from 22 percent to 51 percent, fear of the arbitrariness of law enforcement officials has increased from 32 percent to 51 percent.

Then, during the 10 years of Jokowi's administration, fear of joining the organization rose from 14 percent to 28 percent, and fear of practicing religion rose from 7 percent to 21 percent.

Saiful continued, the process towards the condition of an authoritarian Indonesia was felt more by people with upper middle education to higher education.

Saiful views that this condition shows symptoms of the decline in the quality of democracy in Indonesia during the Joko Widodo administration.

"The decline in the performance of democracy from a democracy that was almost consolidated before President Jokowi led into autocrats or authoritarianism had occurred, especially in the last five years Indonesia under its leadership," explained Saiful.

It is known, this survey was conducted on 4-11 October 2024. This survey method is multistage random sampling with a valid sample count of 994, with a margin of error plus-minus 3.2 percent at a 95 percent confidence level. Interviews to respondents are conducted face-to-face.
